‘Dogs Snatch Thrilling Win Over Skagit Valley

Bellevue College men’s basketball won a thriller in the final seconds, defeating Skagit Valley 94-92 at Courter Family Athletic Pavilion.

After a hot start leading 49-39 at halftime, the Cardinals wasted no time cutting into the lead and tied the game 51-51 just a little over two minutes into the second half. From there Skagit Valley would hold a slight lead for much of the latter part of the second half until Prophet Johnson drained a three-pointer with :57 remaining to put BC back on top 92-91. Skagit’s Omari Maulana converted on one of two tree throws to tie it up before BC’s Aydan Janssan scored with five seconds remaining on an assist by Johnson to give Bellevue the dramatic win.

The ‘dogs as a team overall had the hot hand shooting 58% from the floor and were led by Owen Moriarty who had 28 points and was 11-for-19 from the field. Johnson had 23 in his return after a concussion injury while Janssan had 20 on 8-for-12 shooting.

Bellevue is 2-3 in region play and 12-7 overall. The win was pivotal for Bellevue as the ‘dogs are chasing three teams in the North who are also ranked second, third, and fourth in the NWAC Ticket Smarter Poll. Bellevue will travel to Shoreline Saturday January 28 for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff.
