Women’s Basketball Fall at Peninsula

Bellevue College women’s basketball lost 96-75 in a wild offensive spree that featured almost 50 fouls and over 60 free throw attempts in the game. While BC shot an efficient 40% from the field on 24-of-60 shooting, Peninsula shot a whopping 51%, draining 33 of 65 attempts. Peninsula’s Chasity Selden was a perfect 12-for-12 from the line and was seven-for-11 from the field in a near perfect night.

Bellevue fell behind quickly 25-12 after the first quarter and could not keep up with Peninsula’s offensive control as the Pirates pulled down 18 offensive rebounds, garnering multiple opportunities to generate points. Ituau Tuisaula had nine offensive boards and was 11-for-17 from the field. Peninsula’s defense also prevented BC from ever having offensive control with 12 steals on the night.

Bellevue closed the halftime gap to 46-39 but Peninsula answered with 50 points in the second half for the runaway win.

Sav Huerta had 25 points for Bellevue while Helena Van Ess had 14. Gwen Aasland had 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Bellevue is 4-4 in league play and hosts Edmonds this Saturday Feb. 11 at 6 p.m.
