Women’s Basketball Escapes Close Call Over Edmonds

Bellevue College women’s basketball made it as interesting as possible in a nail-biting 78-77 win over Edmonds at Courter Family Athletic Pavilion.

Sav Huerta’s layup with 56 seconds remaining proved to be the winner, putting BC up 78-74. The Tritons got four chances to win it in the final minute but could not cash in as the ‘dogs held onto the win.

With Bellevue in the lead most of the game, Edmonds put a scare into the Bulldogs midway through the fourth quarter taking a 69-68 lead with 4:42 to go. Huerta quickly flipped the momentum draining a three-ball to give Bellevue a 71-69 lead as the ‘dogs would not trail for the rest of the game.

BC shot 19-for-24 from the free throw line and were led by Bri Byrnes who was a perfect 10-for-10 and had 25 points on the night. Byrnes was also hot from the perimeter making three-of-seven from three-point range. Huerta had 23 points while McKayla Rodriguez had a team-high 11 rebounds.

The Bulldogs remain in contention for not only the playoffs, but the Region title as they moved to 5-4 in region play (13-8 overall). They host Whatcom this Wednesday Feb. 15 at 5 p.m.
