
Bellevue College softball, coming off a runner-up finish at the 2022 NWAC Championships and a pre-season #2 ranking, won both games of the season opening BC Invite over the weekend topping Lower Columbia 11-3 and Clackamas 8-0. Sunday’s games were cancelled due to inclement weather.
In the opener against perennial South Region power Lower Columbia, the ‘dogs were in a close game until the sixth when BC put up 7 runs and turned the standoff into a blowout. Haley Winckler doubled for two RBI’s while Morgan Sunchild homered for three RBI’s in the big inning. Sunchild had three RBI’s as did returning AFCA All-American Kelci Studioso, who was 2-for-3 in the game.
In the nightcap Studioso was the star again with another 2-for-3 outing, three RBI’s and two stolen bases. The Bulldogs gradually tacked on runs while taking advantage of four Clackamas errors while riding the pitching of Katie Fodge who threw a complete game two hit shutout.
Bellevue hosts SW Oregon next Saturday March 4 at 11 a.m. in another BC Invite.
