Bellevue College Welcomes new Head Men’s Soccer Coach John Buttle

John Buttle, an alumnus of Bellevue College, has been named Head Coach for the Bellevue College men’s soccer team. Buttle was a member of two NWAC Champion teams during his years here as a player. In 2001, Buttle was a member of the title team coached by former Jamaican International Coach Fred Thompson and in 2002, was on the NWAC title team coached by former Seattle Sounders standout Chance Fry.

He is the son of former English professional and Seattle Sounders legend Steve Buttle. John brings over ten years of coaching experience at the varsity, premiere, and collegiate level. As a graduate of Concordia University, Buttle majored in Psychology and minored in Business, winning back-to-back Cascade Collegiate Conference Championships as a versatile attacking player in 2004 and 2005, and was a National Tournament participant in 2005 .

Buttle spent six years coaching at Juanita High School, leading them to a 4A KingCo championship in 2008 and a state tournament berth. In 2010, Buttle’s squad won the 3A KingCo title and qualified for the state tournament. He has also has spent time coaching for Eastside FC, the premiere club he played for growing up.

A USSF licensed coach, Buttle spent the past two years coaching alongside Eduardo Millan as an assistant coach, helping the team make the playoffs in 2021.

He graduated with a master’s degree in Intercollegiate Athletic Leadership from the University of Washington.
