Baseball Goes 4-0 On Weekend

Luke Vrable

Bellevue College baseball won it’s first weekend set since the opening week by winning two games over both Spokane and Mount Hood in a three-team round robin schedule hosted at Courter Field.

On Saturday, Bellevue won 10-0 over Mount Hood behind Jack Rhea’s two-for-three game with three RBI’s. Cam Hoiland, Jack Erdman, and Ethan Cox combined for 13 strikeouts on the mound for Bellevue. In the nightcap, two of the NWAC’s top pitchers faced off against each other as Spokane’s Liam Paddack, who has signed with Gonzaga University battled BC’s Ryan Lynch, who came in with a 0.40 ERA. Lynch proved to be superior, striking out nine while giving up only one hit through six innings of work before giving way to Chase Archibald and Kole Bennett who threw three innings of hitless and scoreless innings in relief. The ‘dogs jumped on Paddack early in the first going up 3-0 on four consecutive singles by Hoiland, Abe Affholter, Rylen Bayne, and Nainoa Nall. Lynch would carry the Bulldogs the rest of the way.

Bellevue faced Spokane again and won in extra innings in walk-off fashion as Nate Cain delivered in the bottom of the tenth with an RBI single. Bayne was stellar on the mound striking out four in the win. Cain had four RBI’s while Affholter had three hits. In the finale, Bellevue held on as a late Mount Hood threat kept things interesting in an 8-6 win. After jumping ahead 7-0 after two innings, the Saints put up six runs to make it a 7-6 game in the seventh before an insurance run thanks to a walk, error, and wild pitch led to a run. Luke Vrable threw three shutout innings and came in during a critical situation to earn the save.

Bellevue is now 10-10 and will open up league play this weekend with a doubleheader at Everett Saturday March 25 at 1 p.m.
