Baseball Takes Four From Douglas

Bellevue College baseball cruised to four wins this weekend winning on Saturday 15-1 and 10-1 before sweeping the Royals on Sunday 18-2 and 6-1.

In the opener, the Bulldogs scored all 15 of their runs in the first four innings as Cam Hoiland led the way with a double, home run, three RBI’s, and 5 1/3 innings of work on the mound without walking a batter. Evan Holman, Abe Affholter, and Nate Cain each had two hits as well.

In game two, Jake Kaepernick and Nate Rasmussen combined for 11 strikeouts on the mound as Bellevue won with ease. Cain continued the hot hitting with three more hits and scored three runs. Jack Rhea was two-for-three in the game as well.

The ‘dogs then travelled to Surrey, British Columbia to take games three and four. In the 18-2 opener, the Bulldogs scored in six consecutive innnings as Hoiland, Holman, and JJ Diaz all had three RBI’s. Rylen Bayne was three for six with four runs scored.

In the nightcap, Bayne was a two-way wonder as Hoiland was on Saturday, driving in the first two runs then going six strong innings on the mound before giving way to Jack Erdman who recorded the save with three innings of shutout work.

Bellevue won it’s tenth game in a row, the longest win current win streak in the NWAC tied with Lower Columbia, and moved to 20-6 in North Region play, and hit the 30-win mark (30-16) for the season. Bellevue closes out regular season play this Saturday at 1 p.m. vs. Shoreline. The doubleheader will be followed by the squad’s first-ever sophomore recognition dinner and early Mother’s Day ceremony on the field following game two.
