Women’s Basketball Tops Whatcom

Sophomores Kristina Blauman and Jordyn Smith scored 18 and 15 points respectively to lead Bellevue to one of their more solid wins of the season, defeating Whatcom 78-70. In a balanced attack, Blauman and Smith were supplemented with strong efforts from freshmen Paige Hampton (14 points, eight rebounds) and Alicia Morrison who had the hottest hand going six-for-eight from the field and a perfect three-for-three from the line for 16 points.

The ‘dogs were sent to the free throw line a whopping 35 times as the Orcas committed nearly 30 fouls, reaching 26 for the night. BC capitalized by making 80% from the line. Blauman and Hampton had 17 of the team’s 38 rebounds as they outnumbered Whatcom underneath by 12 rebounds.

Bellevue’s consistency spanned all four quarters and came up with clutch free throws down the stretch as the Orcas pulled to within three at 73-70 with :26 remaining. Jadyn Mueller and Blauman made key free throws to prevent any last second chances by Whatcom.

Bellevue moves to 3-1 in league play and 7-12 overall. They host Shoreline this Wednesday Jan. 24 at 5 p.m.
