Fourth-ranked Peninsula College used the force of one player in the middle and a strong fourth quarter to push past host Bellevue 59-41 at Courter Family Athletic Pavilion. Peninsula center Jelissa Julmist pulled down 22 rebounds as the Pirates dominated ball control over the Bulldogs outrebounding them 45-29. Julmist had 16 points as well to lead the Pirates.
While neither team was stellar in the first quarter, Peninsula was able to hold BC to only seven points as the ‘dogs got off only 11 shots in the quarter. After being down 24-19 in the low-scoring affair at halftime, Peninsula added more cushion up by nine after three quarters. The Bulldogs, still in the game, let Peninsula run away early in the fourth as the Pirates went on a 13-2 run to start the quarter and were up by 20 with 4:46 to go.
Kristina Blauman had eight points and five rebounds while Paige Hampton and Jadyn Mueller each had six rebounds. The win put Peninsula at 10-0 in league play while Bellevue dropped to 6-4 (10-15 overall). The Bulldogs travel to Whatcom on Sat. Feb. 17 to take on the Orcas at 2 p.m.
