Women’s Basketball Fall Short at Skagit Valley

Bellevue College women’s basketball made a mild comeback but fell just short of victory in a 70-64 loss at Skagit Valley in Mount Vernon. After trailing by ten at halftime 36-26, Bellevue stormed back with 22 points in a decisive third quarter to get the Bulldogs right back into the game. But the Cardinals took care of business at the foul line, sinking eight-of-eleven in the fourth quarter to outpace BC 20-16.

In the comeback third quarter, Mary Davis and Alicia Morrison were a combined six-for-seven from the field as the ‘dogs shot 56%. Davis made six straight points to start off the fourth as she rallied Bellevue from a 50-48 deficit to a 54-50 lead. As the game was tight until the final seconds, Bellevue had chances, down 64-62 with just over a minute to go. But the Bulldogs burned too much time off the clock taking over 30 seconds to get off a missed three-pointer that left only :14 to go before Skagit Valley sealed it with six free throws in the final seconds of the game.

Davis led the Bulldogs with 22 points. She was a perfect six-for-six from the line and led the team in rebounds at seven. Jordyn Smith, playing in her final regular season game in front of her hometown, pulled down seven rebounds as well.

Bellevue ends regular season play at 7-7 (11-18 overall). The Bulldogs will take on West Region champion Lower Columbia on Friday March 8 at 8 p.m. in the opening round of the sweet sixteen in Pasco.
