Volleyball Alum Recognized In National Publication

Former Bellevue College standout Averi Dyer was the feature in a story posted by the American Volleyball Coaches’ Association as part of a collection of two-year college success stories across the nation.

Here is an excerpt from the story:

Objectives of the AVCA Two-Year College Success Stories Program:

  • To underscore the importance of the Two-Year College experience in facilitating the success of the individual throughout the collegiate career as well as personal and career pursuits. It is designed to spotlight what ordinarily would not have happened had this two-year path not been an option.
  • To highlight collegiate, professional, and personal achievements of student-athletes who have attended and/or graduated from two-year college institutions.

Averi Dyer came from a small town of Kalama with very little recognition for her talent.

She ended up at Bellevue College by putting together her own film and visiting the campus. At her visit she showed tenacity, grit and a desire to win.

Originally because of credits, Averi was only going to stay one year. She had success within her freshman season being named second team North Region but unfortunately broke her hand in match one of the NWAC Championship tournament and had to cheer on her team from the bench as they took seventh place.

This would usually defeat someone, but not Averi. This drove her to figuring out how to extend her credits to come back for her second year with the tenacity we saw in her recruiting trip to have the NWAC’s she wanted. And Averi did just that.

She led her team to a North Region title, received North Region MVP, named First Team All NWAC and First Team AVCA All American. She was then named later to the NWAC All Decade team for 2010-2020. While all her success was great on the court, Averi also thrived in the classroom with a cumulative GPA of 3.24 while at Bellevue College.

Being extremely family oriented it was important for Averi that she find a program that matched Bellevue to continue her playing career, so she landed on University of Providence in Great Falls, Montana. She continued her success there with being awarded two-time defensive player of the year, two time First Team All-Conference, First Team All-Region and two time Academic All-Conference.

Her success on the court flowed into her career landing her a waived student teaching year and taking over her first classroom for second grade in the fall of 2020. She is now settled back home in Kalama being hired on at the new school there to be closer to family!
