Men’s Soccer Goes 1-1 at NWAC Friendlies

Bellevue College men’s soccer kicked off the 2024 season at the annual NWAC Friendlies held at Starfire Complex in Tukwila. The Bulldogs fell 2-1 Tues. Aug. 20 to Columbia Basin before bouncing back with a 2-1 win over Rogue on Wed. Aug. 21.

In the opener, both teams played tough defense as BC could muster only three shots on goal the entire match. The aggressiveness on the defensive front on both sides was evident with 28 fouls called in the opener. Down 2-0, BC avoided a shutout as Derek Johnson scored in the closing minute.

In the win over Rogue, Bellevue rallied with two quick goals by Eluar Gutierrez and Jordan Stroud after falling behind 1-0 just after the start of the second half. Gutierrez found the back of the net a minute after Rogue got it’s early lead to deflate the Osprey ego, then used the momentum for Stroud’s game winner off an assist by Ignacio Brandan.

Bellevue had the edge offensively outshooting Rogue 18-13 in an aggressive offense-dominated matchup. Jake Jenner, in his debut weekend in the box, had 10 saves for the ‘dogs.

Bellevue will now play three exhibitions (non-counting) as they travel to the University of Puget Sound, a four-year NCAA division III team, on Wed. Sept. 28. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
