Bellevue College volleyball escaped fire and ran off with three wins in four matches this week in eastern Washington, topping Spokane, Blue Mountain, and Walla Walla before bowing to Yakima Valley. The Bulldogs were delayed arriving to their opening match in Spokane due to a fire stalling traffic heading east of the mountains. The rush mode did not stop the Bulldogs as they swept the Sasquatch 25-20, 25-19, 26-24. Bellevue hit at a .300 clip while holding Spokane to .129.

Bellevue then journeyed from Pendleton, OR to Walla Walla, WA to win six straight sets in a split location sweep over Blue Mountain (25-13, 25-17, 31-29) and Walla Walla (25-14, 25-18, 28-26). In the win over Walla Walla, the ‘dogs held off the Warriors even with an ugly .070 hitting mark committing eight errors in set three. Lexi Echols had 10 kills while Jocie Snyder had 12 digs. Setters Kawehi Sarona and Mandi Nottingham each had 10 assists.

In the final match, Bellevue fell in five (19-25, 25-15, 25-20, 23-25, 12-15) to Yakima Valley, another top-ranked team in the NWAC who Bellevue beat last week at home. No details were reported by Yakima Valley’s staff.

The Bulldogs are 6-2 and will have Labor Day weekend off from matches before another road trip to Longview for a 6 p.m. first serve against Lower Columbia on Wed. Sept. 4.
