Volleyball Falls To Skagit Valley

Bellevue College athlete

Bellevue College volleyball fell 3-0 to host Skagit Valley in the showdown for early North Region bragging rights. The two unbeaten squads, playing in front of a raucous crowd of over 500, evenly battled for the first two sets (25-23, 26-24) before Skagit Valley ran away in set three, topping the ‘dogs 25-12.

While Bellevue hit at a modest .320 clip for the night, serving and passing got to the ‘dogs as Skagit Valley had 11 aces on the night including five in the final set while Bellevue managed just one ace from the serve line. Skagit Valley’s dominance at serving prevented Bellevue’s main offensive weapons from getting into any rhythm, as the ‘dogs were held to single digit kills from the pins and middles.

Bellevue fell behind 7-0 on a pair of aces by Skagit Valley setter Hayden Claeys which proved to be too much to overcome as the Cardinals had eight kills on no errors in the decisive set.

Jessi Mahler and Annie Goetze had five kills apiece while sophomore setter Mandi Nottingham had 17 assists. Bellevue hosts Shoreline this Fri. Oct. 4 at 7 p.m.
