Bellevue College men’s basketball traveled east of the mountains for a pair of non-league games but ended up on the short end in both, falling on Fri. Nov. 22 to Columbia Basin 78-60 before losing the next night at Walla Walla 99-66.
In the opener, Bellevue stayed close with Columbia Basin down only 29-26 in a slow down tempo as Bellevue got off only 20 shots in the half shooting a respectable 45%. The Hawks simply turned in up a notch in the second half with red-hot shooting draining 20-of-31 from the field for 65%.
BC remained in the game until the 8:09 mark when a 47-49 two-point deficit gradually turned into a double-digit difference as the ‘dogs could not recover late in the game.
Shawn Etheridge had 13 points for Bellevue. while Sawyer Cottrell added 12.
In the loss to Walla Walla, the Bulldogs simply fell flat in the second half for a second night in a row, allowing the Warriors to put up 56 points while BC managed only 35. Bellevue was outrebounded 44-24 as Walla Walla’s offensive control also gave them freedom to put up the long ball, as the Warriors cashed in on 10 three-pointers in the game as they shot 54% for the night. Max Mayo was a perfect six-for-six from the line and led the ‘dogs with 18 points. Julian Ibarra came off the bench and was productive with six-for-nine shooting for 15 points along with four rebounds.
Bellevue falls to 0-4 and will host the Seattle Mountaineers, a semi-pro club comprised of former two- and four-year college plaers, on Wed. Nov. 27 at 6 p.m.
