Long Range Shooting Propels Bellevue Men To First Win

Bellevue College men’s basketball notched their first win of the 2024-25 season over the Seattle Mountaineers 93-83. The win was also the home opener for the squad who came in with an 0-4 record. The ‘dogs, who have been without top returning scorer Josiah Johnson who is nursing an achilles injury, found a winning formula tonight with the long ball, as BC threw up a whopping 35 three-pointers tonight, making 14 of them for 40%. The hot perimeter shooting allowed BC to outscore the Mountaineers 42-6 from three-point range.

The Mountaineers, a Seattle-based semi-pro team of former two- and four-year college players, shot exceptionally well making nearly 50% from the field and wer 21-of-22 from the free throw line but could not make up for the point difference as Bellevue shot over 50% while putting up 48 points in the second half to hold onto the win.

Darek Usitalo made a pair of free throws and followed up with bucket near the two-minute mark to keep BC up by double digits at 86-76, helping secure the win.

Bellevue had one of it’s most balanced attacks of the year as six players scored in double figures including Isaiah White (18 points), Usitalo (13), Cooper Brown (12), and Daviaun Gale, Max Mayo, and Shawn Etheridge (11).

Bellevue will host Centralia this Tue. Dec. 3 at 6 p.m.
