Bellevue College men’s basketball gave strong efforts in the second half, but a 55-21 halftime deficit was too much to overcome as the host Shoreline Dolphins topped BC 79-67.

The ‘dogs had eight turnovers in the first half as Shoreline played as good of a half as a team could with 20 rebounds and hot shooting from every corner of the gym making 55% from the field including 67% from three point range and 88% from the free throw line. When the ‘dogs did have possession of the ball, they shot a paltry 26% from the field.

After jumping out early, Shoreline’s Joel Amaro pushed the Dolphins past the 20 point barrier with a three pointer to put Shoreline up 40-19 and followed with a dunk to make it 42-19.

Bellevue kept whittling down the lead from 20 to 12 to just nine with 3:27 to go as Isaiah White nailed a three pointer. With a glimmer of hope for a miracle comeback, Amaro answered with a free throw, a key steal, and another dunk to put a stamp on Shoreline’s win.

Darek Usitalo had 14 points while White had 12 in the second half comeback bid, and ended the night with 19 and 17 points respectively. Bellevue sits in third place at 3-2 and has a pivotal game this Sat. Jan. 25 as the host second place (4-1) Edmonds at 4 p.m.
