Warns Puts On Phenom Show As Bulldogs Top Edmonds in Overtime

Bellevue College women’s basketball pulled out a thrilling overtime 98-95 win over visiting Edmonds today at Courter Family Athletic Pavilion. The win was a high scoring affair with the ‘dogs pouring in 46 points in the first half as the up tempo game allowed BC to put up 46 field goal attempts.

Leading 46-43 at halftime and 62-57 after three quarters, the Bulldogs went stale in the fourth as the Tritons raced out to an 8-0 run to overtake the Bellevue lead on a three pointer by Edmonds’ Kayanna Jackson. Edmonds held on for a narrow lead for the next four minutes until Devynn Warns hit two to tie it up at 69 with 4:38 remaining. Up 82-79 with 13 seconds remaining, Edmonds made a critical foul with :04 on the clock allowing BC’s Ghadir Ramadan to go to the foul line where she promptly made both to bring the ‘dogs to within one at 82-81. After a quick BC foul, Edmonds made one of two from the line setting the stage for a buzzer-ending layup by Warns to send the game to OT.

Warns again came up big in overtime nailing two free throws and a layup in consecutive possessions to give Bellevue a 92-91 lead with 2:11 to go. The sophomore transfer again clutched up moments later with seven points in the final minute to seal the win.

Warns had 10 of the team’s 15 overtime points and finished with a season high 46 points. She was 18-31 from the field and nine of 13 from the free throw line. Warns also snagged 11 rebounds and had four steals in the highlight reel performance.

Bellevue is now 4-2 in league and 12-9 overall. They travel to Skagit Valley this Wed. Jan. 29 for a 5 p.m. tipoff.
