Bellevue College baseball got back on the winning side of .500 with a four game sweep over Pierce. On Sat. Mar. 8, the Bulldogs swept Pierce by scores of 12-2 and 3-0. In the opener, Bellevue jumped out in front 1-0 in the first as Ollie Hogan hit an RBI sacrifice fly to score Caden Kennelly, who singled to lead off the inning. Starting pitcher Terry Hayes Jr. would go four shutout innings, only to see the lead disappear after a leadoff walk turned into the tying run in the top of the fifth. BC answered with a run in the bottom of the inning followed by a nine run sixth, highlighted by a two-RBI single by Drew De La Cruz. Kennelly and TJ Armstrong both doubled in the inning that was aided by five walks, three hit batters, and an error by Pierce. The game ended after seven innings due to the run limit rule.

In the nightcap, Tristan Aasland went seven shutout innings, throwing only 14 total balls out of 70 pitches in a seven strikeout appearance. Mason Goodson closed the door with two consecutive two-out strikeout innings for the save. De La Cruz continued the hot hitting with three hits while Kennelly continued his torrid offensive start for the year with another two hits.

On Sun. Mar. 9 in game one, BC won 7-2 as Dylan Skolfield went five ininngs and gave up only one run before passing the ball on to Drew Welk and Jacob Gabler who gave up zero earned runs in the final four frames. Ollie Hogan broke out with a three-for-three game with four RBI’s. His single in the fourth ended up being the game winner driving home Noah Fields who singled earlier in the inning. Hogan added a two-RBI home run in the eighth.

In game two, both teams struggled under less than ideal weather conditions as heavy rain poured for the second half of the game, which Bellevue ended up on top 11-6. Bellevue put up nine of the 11 runs in the final three innings as pitchers on both sides had difficulty gripping the ball and throwing strikes. Ethan Thomas threw four and two thirds innings; his longest outing in three years, and gave up only one run and zero walks for the win. The highlight of the series sweep was Noah Deese, who has converted to a position player form pitcher, and went two-for-three with a home run and two RBI’s. He also was on base four of five times in his debut start in the batting lineup. Noah Fields, one of the top NWAC hitters, had two doubles while Hogan continued his hot day with a double and two hits and two RBI’s.

The four game sweep puts BC at 9-7 and will play their final pre-season games this upcoming weekend Mar. 15-16 at Centralia in a three team round-robin with Centralia and Yakima Valley. The Bulldogs play Centralia at 11 a.m. on Saturday followed by a 2 p.m. matchup with Yakima Valley.
