Bellevue College baseball won two but lost two the following day in a four-game split over the weekend, putting the Bulldogs in a tie for first place with Everett. On Sat. Apr. 19, Bellevue won the opening game 10-0 as Dylan Skolfield, Drew Welk, and Staely Moore combined on a two-hitter with 12 strikeouts. Noah Fields had two RBI’s as did Drew De La Cruz. Both had RBI hits in the four-run second inning which put the ‘dogs up 5-0; a lead good enough for the pitching staff to hold the rest of the way.

In game two, Bellevue had to work harder, down 1-0 early on but finally prevailed 9-4. BC answered with six runs in the fourth inning. Fields and De La Cruz again came up big with RBI hits. Tyson Schertenleib had an RBI hit as well in an inning in which Bellevue went from scoring just four with a retired side to scoring six and still up to bat, as the umpire accidentally called baserunner Elliot Oster and Caden Kennelly automatically out on a perceived illegal slide rule. After conferring with the other members of the crew, the umpire reversed his decision after getting high school and college rules mixed up. Kennelly was deemed safe, and two runs came across to score. De La Cruz was three-for-four while Oster, Jackson May, and Ollie Hogan had two hits apiece.

In the games on Sun. Apr. 20 at Shoreline’s Meridian Park, Bellevue fell in both as the bullpen gave up leads in the later innings. Shoreline rallied for four runs in the seventh to overcome a 3-1 deficit to win 5-3. Two walks and a hit batter followed by four straight singles led to the big inning for the Dolphins. Bellevue jumped out 3-0 in the second as Tyson Schertenleib doubled to lead the efforts. Kennelly and TJ Armstrong had two hits apiece.

In the nightcap, another four run inning, this time in the eighth and on one big hit, led to a Dophin win, 6-5. After two walks and a base hit, Shoreline’s Dylan Oelker cleared the bases with a three-RBI triple to the gap in left center field. Bellevue’s bats were silenced in game two, garnering only three hits in the game.

The Bulldogs had a twelve game win streak snapped, and are now 14-4 in North Region play and 25-13 overall. They host Everett in a battle for first place this Sat. Apr. 26 at 1 p.m.
