Bellevue College baseball was forced to a third game, but took down visiting Centralia College two games to one in the best-of-three NWAC Super Regionals held at Bellevue’s Courter Field. The Bulldogs won the opener on Fri. May 16 in a dramatic walk-off as the Bulldogs’ Jackson May delivered a bases-loaded single to break a 4-4 tie in the bottom of the ninth. Ollie Hogan led off the inning with a single then advanced all the way to third base on an errant pick off throw by the Centralia pitcher Liam Karlson. Intentional walks to Caden Kennelly and Elliot Oster set the stage for May’s heroics.
After rain forced a delay for one day, the Bulldogs fell 11-1 in game two on Sun. May 18 as defense hampered the efforts of Terry Hayes, Jr., who earlier was named the North Region Pitcher of the Year. After leading 1-0 through four innings, the wheels fell off with four errors as the Trail Blazers plated runs in innings five through nine for the blowout. In an odd line score, Bellevue had only one run on 10 hits while Centralia plated 11 runs on only eight hits. Bobby Trigg, who entered in the middle of the game for an injured Tyson Schertenleib, was two for two.

With the series tied 1-1, BC wasted no time flipping the momentum by going up 5-0 in the first inning as May and Noah Fields led the inning off with singles. Drew De La Cruz and TJ Armstrong delivered two RBI hits to set the tone for Bellevue. With the 5-0 lead, Dylan Skolfield went seven innings on the mound and gave up only two runs to run his record to 10-0 on the year. Mason Goodson came in and ended the game with a perfect ninth as Fields led the offense with three hits and three RBI’s. Fields won the conference RBI title with 52 on the year.

The Bulldogs, now 34-19, head to the NWAC Championships for the third year in a row and face defending NWAC Champion Linn-Benton at 4:35 p.m. on Thu. May 22 in Longview.
