
In a match that was anticipated to be a showdown between two of the top teams in the NWAC, host Bellevue took down Yakima in dominating fashion, making quick work with a 25-13, 25-9, 26-24 sweep.
The Bulldogs were on fire from the beginning with setters Lucci Unga and Maile Kuamo’o connecting with both pins and the middles in a balanced atttack. Bellevue went on a 5-0 run early pushing an 8-4 lead into 13-5 as Kiana Cueto had two kills in that stretch.
Set two was aided by sloppy play by the Yaks as they swung at a -.212 clip while BC hit .391 after a scorching .462 in set one.
Bellevue had to work from behind in set three as they fought back from a 16-10 deficit before Karisa Martin came through big late in the set with two big swings from the right side; one to tie it at 24 and the second for the match winner on point 26.
The ‘dogs hit a red hot .359 for the night and were led by Martin who had 12 kills and hit .435. Unga had 15 assists and 14 digs for the Bulldogs.
Bellevue is 8-0 and will travel to Olympia and Centralia this weekend for the Blazer/Clipper Classic. They open play Fri. Sept. 5 at 11 a.m. vs. Tacoma before a 1:30 match vs. Centralia. Both matches Friday will be at Centralia College.
