In a prep for Friday’s North Region showdown against Edmonds, visiting Bellevue College went to Everett and defeated the Trojans 3-1 last night at the Walt Price Center in Everett. Although needing four sets for the win, Bellevue controlled set four with a convincing 25-13 win to close out the match as the ‘dogs hit a scorching .500 in the final set.

Bellevue took sets one and two 25-21 and 25-19 before Everett managed to sneak a set from Bellevue 25-23. In the third set, Bellevue spotted the Trojans a 3-0 lead then let them go on a 3-0 run to build an 11-6 lead over the ‘dogs. Although Bellevue managed to fight back and even take the lead at 16-15, the teams played evenly down the stretch before the Trojans put away the ball with two kills to break a 23-23 tie for the win.

Bellevue took out their frustration without hesitation in set four racing out to a 5-0 lead on a kill by Cadence Lyon. Mya Hejl led a hot streak mid-set with two consecutive kills to put BC up 19-10 in the runaway set.

Ava Nowak, playing in her backyard after attending nearby Glacier Peak HS, had a stellar all around night with 10 kills and 29 digs. Gillian Merhoff had 14 kills while setters Maile Kuamo’o and Lucci Unga were equally effective with 20 and 23 assists respectively.

Bellevue runs it’s perfect record to 22-0 and will host Edmonds tomorrow Fri. Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. Free popcorn will be served to all Bellevue College students in the what is anticipated to be the top billing match in the entire NWAC all season.
