Bellevue College volleyball took little time bouncing back after their first loss of the season with a 3-1 win on the road at Whatcom. The Bulldogs showed early signs of a lack of confidence coming off Friday’s loss to Edmonds, falling 28-26 in set one, but regained their composure and swagger that led them to their 22-0 start with convincing 25-11, 25-14, and 25-10 wins the rest of the way.
In set two, freshman Cadence Lyon and sophomore transfer Kiana Cueto led BC out of the gates to a 10-3 lead and never looked back. Mya Hejl, who ended the night with 12 kills hitting at a .550 clip, put the set away with a kill to move the match to set three.
Bellevue went on a 6-2 run midway through the third set to move from 18-10 to 24-12 before Hejl again ended it off a set from Maile Kuamo’o.
BC repeated their rally in similar fashion in set four, extending the lead in the middle outscoring the Orcas 9-1 to go up 20-7. Olivia Chilton, Ava Nowak, and Hejl had three kills down the stretch to put away the match.
After hitting .143 in set one, the ‘dogs swung the hot hand hitting .420 in sets two through four. Cueto led Bellevue with 14 kills. Nowak had 11 kills and 28 digs to pace the Bulldogs.
Bellevue travels to Skagit Valley this Fri. Oct. 17. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
