Men’s Soccer Loses Defensive Battle

Bellevue College men’s soccer lost 1-0 to host Whatcom in a game that featured five saves from Bellevue goalkeepers Juan Carlos Lopez Jr. and Mason Duarte. Unfortunately the Orcas were able to squeak one across the line early on an unassisted goal by Jordan Johnson which ultimately was the game-winner.

On the other side of the pitch, Whatcom’s defense clamped down, allowing only two shots on goal by the Bulldogs. Bellevue had three chances late in the final 15 minutes of the match as Hamza Elmatwally, Hongfan Wei, and Sergio Mercado all had shots, with Mercado’s hitting the crossbar with 10 minutes remaining. Whatcom remains undefeated in region play at 6-0-3 while Bellevue drops to 3-4-1 (5-4-1 overall). The ‘dogs travel to Skagit Valley this Sat. Oct. 18 for a noon start.
