
Bellevue College volleyball dominated set one 25-13 but could not hold the momentum against top-ranked Edmonds, falling 3-1 (25-13, 21-25, 26-28, 23-25). The two teams have been near the top all season long and are both having record-breaking seasons and had a back and forth battle in front of a packed Triton Gym at Edmonds. With the night dedicated to their departing sophomores, Edmonds came out a little on the tight end hitting at a -.056 clip. The Bulldogs were dialed in with several key swings by Mya Hejl and Karisa Martin as the ‘dogs raced ahead 20-9 in set one. Gillian Merhoff delivered point 25 to end the set to put the Bulldogs up 1-0.
Bellevue then jumped out 5-3 in what looked like it would be an night owned by Bellevue before momentum swung the Tritons’ way. The Bulldogs’ timing with the front row hitters suddenly became off as Bellevue found themselves in a hole 19-13 but rallied back making it a competitive set before ultimately losing 25-21.
Set three began once again with Bellevue staking the early lead 6-4 before Edmonds’ offense caught fire along with consecutive aces as the Tritons regained the lead. Serve receive continued to plague BC in the set as the Tritons had five aces to finish off set three.
Bellevue again had the early lead 13-10 in set four and was neck-and-neck with Edmonds throughout the set before the Tritons were able to close out the match 25-23.
Kiana Cueto had the strong arm for the ‘dogs with 11 kills and only two errors, hitting .375. Martin had 11 kills as well while sophomore libero convert Liv Deckard had a game-high 27 digs, making one handed stops all night and kept the Bulldogs in system in a phenomenal defensive performance.
The Bulldogs will have their final home match this Fri. Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. vs. Whatcom. The sophomores will be honored in a ceremony as the 27-2 Bulldogs prepare for the upcoming NWAC Championship.
