Volleyball Tops Whatcom

Bellevue College volleyball swept visiting Whatcom 3-0 (25-9, 25-13, 25-14) at Courter Family Athletic Pavilion. The match was also the Bulldogs’ final home match of the 2025 season as eight sophomores were honored in a pre-match ceremony. Coach Jocelyn Lawrence spoke and gave thanks to the departing Gillian Merhoff, Mya Hejl, Karisa Martin, Kiana Cueto, Kawehi Sarono, Olivia Chilton, Mailina Burke, and Olivia Deckard.

The Bulldogs had only 10 total swing errors all night hitting at a .324 clip. In set one BC jumped out early 7-0 on a serve run by freshman Ava Nowak. After the Orcas finally got on the board with a service error, the Bulldogs went on a 6-0 run later in the set to make it 23-8 in the runaway win.

Set two was more competitive early on as Whatcom stayed within three at 11-8 until the ‘dogs went on a 10-0 run to put set two away. Gillian Merhoff had five kills in the set to lead Bellevue.

The Orcas gave BC momentum with four errors early on in set three as the Bulldogs moved the needle to a commanding 14-5 lead on a kill by Kiana Cueto. Merhoff had two key swings near the end of the set to lead the sweep.

Merhoff was on fire hitting .737 with 14 kills and no errors. Mya Hejl hit .556 and had five solo blocks up front for Bellevue.

Bellevue ends their regular season at 9-2 in region play and 27-2 overall; their best overall record in program history. The Bulldogs will open up the NWAC Regionals on Sat. Nov. 15 at 10:00 a.m. against the South Region third seed.
