Bellevue College women’s basketball managed to hold on to a 16 point halftime lead to top host Linn-Benton 70-60 at the NWAC Crossover Tourney in Albany, OR. A pivotal second quarter in which Bellevue outscored the Roadrunners 16-5 gave BC enough cushion for the remainder of the game.
The first quarter saw Bellevue throwing up 20 shots in the opening 10 minutes as Bellevue established a 20-15 first quarter lead. The ‘dogs took advantage of a two-for-18 field goal mark for Linn-Benton in the second quarter as Bellevue went on a 10-0 run to open the quarter. The Bulldogs built up the lead to 30-15 and maintained it until intermission.
After an even third quarter, Linn-Benton opened up the final quarter with a 6-0 run to make the game interesting. Shannel Kovalsky and Aysha Peter made back-to-back buckets to tame the Roadrunners. A Sequoia Turner free throw put BC up by 20 at 70-50 with 2:25 left to end any potential Linn-Benton threat even though the Roadrunners ended the game with 10 consecutive points.
Bellevue is now 2-5 and will play Lower Columbia at the tourney on Sat. Dec. 13 at 4 p.m. The ‘dogs are looking to avenge an earlier loss to Lower Columbia last week as the Red Devils took one from Bellevue by a score of 79-70.
