Bellevue College women’s basketball put up consistent offensive production all four quarters in a 65-43 road win at Pierce. The Bulldogs outraced the Raiders 32-16 in the second half after holding a six point margin at intermission.
In the first quarter, the dogs found themselves down until the closing minute as a Sophia Mackay free throw brought BC back to within two at 14-12 with a minute to go. She later followed with a bucket with seven seconds remaining in the quarter to tie it up 14-14.
In the second quarter the Bulldogs again were neck and neck with the Raiders until late in the quarter and repeated the final minute scoring push as Leeschelle Sohappy hit a jumper with 56 seconds on the clock to put the Bulldogs up 31-25. On the next possession, Kori Margain hit both free throws after being fouled with 24 seconds remaining to push the lead to eight at 33-25.
In the third, Bellevue opened up the quarter with a 7-0 run on buckets by Alexis Marcussen and DeAndrea Woods-Singleton as the ‘dogs distanced themselves from the Raiders from there on.
Shannel Kovalsky led Bellevue with 18 points and seven rebounds. Kori Margain came off the bench to provide seven boards as well. The Bulldogs are now 3-7 and will host Green River, Clark, and Northwest Indian College in the Bellevue Holiday Tournament on Sun. Dec. 28.
