Bellevue College women’s basketball returned from the holiday break with a little rust, falling 76-65 in the opening round of the Bellevue Holiday Classic at Courter Family Athletic Pavilion. After a slow start, falling behind 23-17 in the first quarter, and 39-30 at intermission, the ‘dogs pulled to within five entering the fourth quarter but could not pull through.

Aysha Peter made both ends of a free throw conversion early in the fourth to make it 53-50, but that was as close as BC could get, as Green River answered with a lead stretch up to 17 points at 71-54 with 2:50 remaining.

Freshman Shannel Kovalsky continued her hot freshman campaign with 21 points and nine rebounds. The Alaskan native was 10-for-17 from the field and had five offensive boards and two steals.

The Bulldogs take on Clark College on Mon. Dec. 29 at 5 p.m. before hosting NW Indian College at 3 p.m. on Dec. 30. The games are a round-robin format hosted at Bellevue.
