Bellevue College women’s basketball got their final tune up before the start of conference play with an 85-48 win over Tacoma at Courter Family Athletic Pavilion. The Bulldogs used a 31-8 second quarter to blow the game open against the winless Titans.
After trailing in the first quarter and early on in the second, Aysha Peter tied it up at 16 with a layup before Sophia Mackay’s three pointer gave BC the lead for good with 7:11 to go in the second quarter. A 15-0 run by the ‘dogs not only gave them the lead but put them in control as the Titans would go over five minutes without scoring until Jasmeen Kaur’s bucket at 3:05 finally got Tacoma on the board again. At one point the Bulldogs made seven consecutive shots in the hot second quarter as the Titans made it easy with 12 turnovers.
Bellevue continued to pour it on in the third as DeAndrea Woods-Singleton was a perfect three-for-three to lead BC to a 21-11 third quarter.
For the night, Tacoma had 35 turnovers as Bellevue’s defense created 22 steals in the mismatch game. Shannel Kovalsky continued her hot freshman season for Bellevue leading the way with 14 points on six-for-eight shooting and a team high six rebounds. Mackay and Woods-Singleton had 13 points with Mackay getting four steals as well.
Bellevue closes out their pre-season play at 5-9 and will open up conference play with a 7 PM home game vs. Edmonds on Wed. Jan. 7.
