Women’s Basketball Tops Everett

Bellevue College women’s basketball used a ten point third quarter advantage to keep visiting Everett at bay in a 59-49 win at Courter Family Athletic Pavilion.

Bellevue and Everett traded 13-10 margins in the first and second quarters to send both teams to the locker room at halftime gridlocked at 23. In the third, Bellevue established some momentum in what would be the deciding factor in the outcome as the ‘dogs outscored the Trojans 16-6. Aysha Peter and Katen Myers had back to back layups fueled by a steal by D’Ana Esquivel to start off the quarter, staking Bellevue a 27-23 lead. Three pointers by Lily Auelua and Sequoia Turner helped BC balloon the lead to 10 at the end of the third.

In the fourth, Everett managed to pull within six at 48-42 with 5:11 remaining but Turner pushed Bellevue’s lead back up to 11 with a five points on a layup and three pointer on the next possession to keep the Trojans at a distance for the remainder of the game.

Peter led Bellevue with 17 points while Auelua chipped in 10 with five rebounds. Myers led the team with seven rebounds and had eight points as well.

Bellevue remains in contention for both the North Region title and post season playoffs with a 7-2 league record. They travel to Port Angeles for a pivotal matchup at Peninsula, who are currently leading the North Region at 9-0, on Wed. Feb. 11. Tipoff is set for 7 P.M.
