
Bellevue College baseball opened up league play taking three games out of four against two opponents this weekend. The Bulldogs swept Douglas College on Fri. Mar. 20 by scores of 6-3 and 10-2 before splitting with Skagit Valley on Sat. Mar. 21 losing 5-1 before rebounding back to take the weekend final 4-1.
The Bulldogs entertained visiting Douglas by hosting the Royals at Husky Ballpark on the University of Washington campus due to wet field conditions at Courter Field. In game one, the ‘dogs were outhit 6-5 but got the key ones when they mattered as Thoma Holden hit a 2-RBI double in the seventh before Elliot Oster delivered a 2-RBI triple for insurance runs in the eighth. Thomas Wood went six innings for the win surrendering only one run.
In game two the ‘dogs put up single runs in the first four innings before blowing it open with six runs in the final two innings. Jackson Dulay had 2 hits and 2 RBI while Johnny Hall was on base four times in the leadoff spot scoring 4 runs. Grady Davis went four innings in long relief throwing a one hit shutout withe 5 strikeouts.
In the opening Saturday loss to Skagit Valley, the Bulldogs could not get the key hits leaving five runners on base in the first two innings; both with only one out as errors on the defensive end led all five of Skagit Valley’s runs being unearned in the bitter loss.
In the weekend finale, Cooper Richter went 7 innings and surrendered only 1 run while striking out six. Lefty relievers Will Woodward and Colin Fraser made their season debuts with shutout relief innings. Woodward, who is coming off a college basketball season in which he earned Baden Player of the Year honors, was especially impressive throwing 9 out of 10 pitches for strikes with 2 strikeouts out of the three batters faced. The three Bellevue arms combined for 0 walks surrendered in the game as well.
Bellevue is 3-1 in league and 10-12 overall and will face Shoreline this Sat. Mar. 28 at 3 P.M. at Inglemoor HS.
