Softball Drops Two

Bellevue College softball played their North Region rival, Edmonds College, in a pivotal league doubleheader but fell, 6-1 and 13-4. In the opener, the Bulldogs’ offense was stymied by Triton pitcher Olivia Collins, who struck out 10 in a complete game effort. The ‘dogs’ Shannon Tierney was one of just two Bellevue bats who could handle Collins, hitting a home run and going 2-for-3. Allie Barashkoff was 2-for-3 as well.

Tierney’s home run gave Bellevue a 1-0 lead in the third as the game was a pitchers’ duel through the first half of the game before the Tritons put up three runs in the fourth and never looked back.

In the nightcap, the Bulldogs were able to generate offense against Collins, putting up two runs in the first inning as BC got three doubles in the inning by Tierney, Barashkoff, and Ava Jeretzky. The early two runs unfortunately could not offset the six run first by Edmonds that was aided by pitcher woes as the ‘dogs walked five Triton batters in the opening frame.

Tierney, who had a monster day at the plate, doubled again in the fourth to drive in Abby Watkins and was 2-for-2 in the game.

The losses put Bellevue in third place at 11-4 (19-14 overall). The same two teams meet again this Fri. Apr. 24 at Edmonds. First pitch is set for 4 P.M.
