Bellevue College softball won both ends of a crucial doubleheader against visiting Douglas College as the ‘dogs won 9-1 in the opener before taking the nightcap in walkoff fashion 7-6. Ava Jeretzky helped key the opening win with a brilliant game in the circle, allowing just one run through four innings as the ‘dogs’ offense took advantage in the second inning on three walks, a hit batter and an error to take a 4-0 lead. The bats got hot in the following inning as Maddie Repp hit a grand slam home run, pushing the lead to 7-1. Repp finished with 6 RBI’s while Shannon Tierney was 3-for-3 with 4 runs scored.
In game two, the ‘dogs survived a game they nearly gave away committing six errors while surrendering 15 Douglas hits. Down 4-0, Bellevue scored four runs in the bottom of the third inning to tie the game on a rare consecutive hit spree of a triple, double, and single by Madison Zimprich, Tierney, and Repp. As the Royals took a 6-5 lead into the final inning, Repp, BC’s hottest player on the day, got things going with a base hit and stolen base to put the tying run in scoring position. Allie Barashkoff doubled home Repp to tie the game, then scored the game winner on an Avery Grutz single for the dramatic comeback win. Repp was 3-for-4 to lead Bellevue.
The wins put Bellevue at 10th overall in the NWAC RPI ratings, with the top 12 advancing to the NWAC tournament. They host Everett, who is currently 8th in the ratings, this Fri. May 8 at 4 P.M. to close out the regular season.
