Bellevue College volleyball is beginning to establish some momentum with eight straight wins, including four in a row to win their own NWAC Crossover Tourney hosted at Courter Family Athletic Pavilion.
On Fri. Sept. 11 Bellevue took down Yakima Valley in straight sets, flipping the script from an earlier loss to the Yaks this season. BC won 25-22, 25-14, 25-18. Ja’elle Jenkins had 13 kills and only three errors hitting .400 to lead the way. Maile Kuamo’o had 28 assists as Bellevue had to adjust to a 5-1 single setter offense due to Lucci Unga nursing an ankle injury. The switch did not seem to phase Bellevue’s offensive attack as Ava Nowak had 11 kills hitting .303 with 12 digs in back row on the defensive side.
Bellevue’s second win was over Tacoma (25-9, 25-21, 25-13). The ‘dogs swung at a phenomenal .750 clip terminating 12 of 16 kills without an error. Cadence Lyon had 10 kills hitting .615.
On Sat. Sept. 12 the Bulldogs topped Rogue 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-14) before winning the title later in the afternoon, beating Yakima Valley for a second time in they tourney 3-1. In the sweep over Rogue, the ‘dogs began to separate in set one after holding a three point lead for three side outs until a Jenkins kill pushed the lead to 23-19. After a similar scenario in set two, Bellevue took advantage of a fatiguing Osprey club as BC took an early commanding 14-7 lead in set three en route to the blowout set. Ava Nowak had two kills in a 5-0 run to cushion Bellevue’s advantage late in the set. No details were reported in the title win over the Yaks.
Bellevue is now 13-4 and will take their eight game win streak into their next match this Tue. Sept. 15 at 7 p.m. vs. Tacoma.
