Bellevue College men’s soccer, on the brink of tough road loss at Whatcom, salvaged a tie as BC’s Derek Remen nailed a penalty kick with just three minutes left in the game as the Orcas and Bulldogs ended the game 1-1.
Bellevue escaped with the tie as Whatcom controlled the game offensively in the second half, outshooting the ‘dogs 10-2. Bellevue ‘keeper Juan Carlos Lopez Jr. was busy in the second half making five saves as the Orcas pounded at BC’s goal continuously.
Before Whatcom’s second half dominance, the ‘dogs had chances in the first half as a header by Bellevue Diego Diaz Romero was saved by Orca goalkeeper Mason Randolph. Remen’s shot at 30:58 hit the crossbar in another close Bellevue attempt. Aiden Karkutly also had a near miss as Bellevue’s offense just had no luck in the first half.
Bellevue is now 2-1-1 (4-1-1 overall) and will travel to Everett this Sat. Sept. 26 for a 2:15 p.m. start.
