Bellevue College volleyball continued their winning streak with a 3-0 sweep over host Shoreline, winning 25-18, 25-20, 25-14. Although the Bulldogs won in straight sets, the play was not as consistent as previous matches, as the ‘dogs struggled somewhat offensively, hitting just .208 while committing eight service errors.

In set one, Bellevue was up with a narrow 15-11 margin before three straight Shoreline errors gave BC some cushion before three consecutive points on kills by Maya Velasquez and Ava Nowak, and an ace by Ja’elle Jenkins shut the door on the Dolphins.

Set two was Bellevue’s sloppiest as the ‘dogs hit .094 with eight errors, but still managed to take the set as ugliness on both sides set in. With BC holding a narrow 21-17 lead, the two clubs managed eight consecutive errors to close out the set for the 25-21 win.

The offensive rhythm finally picked up in set three as the Bulldogs put up six straight points on kills by Megan Hale (three), Jenkins (two), and Nowak. Jenkins ended the match by terminating a ball off from Lucci Unga, who returned for full action coming off an injury as Bellevue ran their 6-2 offense with setters Unga and Maile Kuamo’o.

Velasquez paced BC’s offense hitting .333 as Kuamo’o (19 assists) and Unga (16 assists) handled second contact smoothly all night. Bellevue is now 4-0 (18-4 overall) and are riding a 13-match win streak. BC now sits in first place as Edmonds was defeated by Skagit Valley tonight giving the ‘dogs sole possession of the lead in the North Region.
