Bellevue College volleyball traveled to league-rival Edmonds in a battle for the North Region title but were swept 25-11, 25-21, 25-23. The two teams came in with identical 10-1 league records and a collective 13-match win streak between the two teams. It was also a rematch of a thrilling five-setter won by Edmonds on Bellevue’s home court on Oct. 14.
The Bulldogs came out tentative up at the net as the Tritons took control early with four kills, building an 8-1 lead out of the gate. Edmonds then used a combination of kills in system coupled with Bellevue errors to go on two key runs from 12-6 to 16-6 and 20-10 to 24-10 to win set one with ease.
Bellevue found their confidence after the disappointing opening set and went on a 5-0 run to go up 6-2 as an ace by Ava Nowak and a kill by Ja’elle Jenkins led the surge. Maile Kuamo’o led the ‘dogs on another pivotal run with an ace and a kill to go up 17-12 giving an early impression BC would run away with set two. But the Tritons answered back with a 6-2 run to get right back in the match then went on a 4-0 run to take set two from Bellevue.
The Bulldogs showed resilience once early on after defeat in set three, going up 7-4 on a kill by freshman Megan Hale. Errors by the Tritons then gave BC some cushion again at 13-8 before the Tritons again came from behind to tie it at 20-20. Edmonds’ hitters were able to connect during the pivotal moment with two swings to go up 22-20 and from there went on to win. The Tritons’ defense proved to be too tough up front and in back row as they had a 72-55 advantage in digs with five players in double digits. Tessa Mossburg had 15 digs for Bellevue.
Bellevue will travel to Albany, OR to play in the South Regional hosted by Linn-Benton CC. The Bulldogs will open play on Sat. Nov. 14 at 1 P.M. against the East Region #3 seed, Walla Walla. Two of the four teams in the South Regional will advance to the NWAC Championships.
