Although the typical offensive firepower numbers weren’t as evident by the scores, Bellevue College softball took care of business with two comfortable wins at Highline today, winning 8-2, and 5-1.
In the opener, Carissa McDowell tossed a 2-hitter in the circle with 7 strikeouts to pace Bellevue. She also did damage at the plate with a solo home run. Sister Tori McDowell had a home run and 3 RBI’s while Tatum Dow and Meg Marino also homered for the ‘dogs.
In the second game, Marino clubbed another home run as Rhaney Harris fanned 11 batters in the complete-game win. Darian Olin led BC with 2 RBI’s and had a double, which gave BC a 3-0 lead in the first. The early runs were pivotal as the Bulldogs would only scratch across 2 more runs for the rest of the game. Marino’s solo shot was in the 2nd inning, which gave the Bulldogs a 4-0 lead. Bellevue is now atop the North Region at 27-3 (38-5 overall).
The Bulldogs have their final regular season games at home, next Saturday May 11 with 12:00 doubleheader hosting Skagit Valley. The day will be an eventful one, as sunny skies are already in the forecast for the final games at home for Head Coach Leah Francis, who earlier in the year announced her retirement following this season, and her sophomores. To make the day even more eventful, the BC Foundation will be providing free hot dogs and beer (for those of legal age) for all fans.
