
Bellevue College volleyball competed head on for the first two sets against North Idaho, but fell in four sets, 25-22, 23-25, 14-25, 14-25 in the opening round of the NWAC Elite Eight Championships at Pierce College.
In what many labeled as the marquis match of the day, Bellevue, ranked #3 in the NWAC took on #2 ranked North Idaho in the opening round. Bellevue came out more polished as the Cardinals committed 10 errors in set one. Set two was an even battle statistically and on the scoreboard as the teams traded blows. Tied at 23, North Idaho pulled away for the narrow win.
In set three, BC was up 7-5 and were hanging on down 9-10 before a five point run for North Idaho put the Cards up 15-9, and it was all North Idaho from there as they stretched the lead to 19-11 before coasting to the 25-14 win.
In set four, the ‘dogs could not flip the momentum they lost in set three and fell behind early 13-4 before North Idaho went on to win the set and match.
Sophomore Jeanice Gamez led BC with six kills and a .267 hit percentage while Lauren Wittmers had 17 assists and 13 digs.
Bellevue, nevertheless, wrapped up an excellent season and exceeded many fans expectations by winning the North Region and were ranked near the top of the NWAC in the Coaches’ Poll for the entire season; all with a predominantly freshmen-heavy roster this fall.
Bellevue closed out the 2023 campaign with an impressive 11-1 record in North Region play and 28-6 record overall.
