Bellevue College men’s basketball went 2-1 this weekend in Aberdeen at the Grays Harbor Crossover Tourney. On Fri. Dec. 13, the Bulldogs won over Linn-Benton 78-70. After a high scoring first half in which Linn-Benton led 50-46, the teams flipped to a slowdown tempo, as the two went from throwing up 83 combined shots in the first half to just 36 in the second. When they did get a shot off in the second half, BC made it count, sinking nine-of-18 from the field and 12-of-13 from the free throw line. Shawn Etheridge was a perfect six-for-six from the stripe as the ‘dogs took advantage of Linn-Benton’s five total field goals in the half to take over the lead when Cooper Brown nailed a three-pointer to give BC a 54-53 lead early in the second half. From there the Bulldogs stretched the lead out to double digits as the Roadrunners could get no closer than seven for the remainder of the game. Etheridge’s hot hand yielded 14 points for Bellevue while Isaiah White had 17.

On Sat. Dec. 14 the Bulldogs shot a dismal four-for-25 in the first half as Columbia Basin raced out to a 35-11 halftime lead in a 68-46 loss. Bellevue tried to make up points early with three point attempts as 16 of the team’s 25 were from long range, but converted on only three of them as CBC worked inside for 54% shooting. Sawyer Cottrell finally caught fire for Bellevue in the second half scoring 15 points on six-for-10 shooting as Bellevue got back to normal scoring with 35 points but could not cool the Hawks down on the defensive end, preventing any comeback. Cotrell’s 15 points in the second half was also the game high for the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs closed out the tourney on Sun. Dec. 15 with a 56-42 win over host Grays Harbor. Bellevue outrebounded Grays Harbor 23-11, including 10 offensive rebounds to hold the Chokers to just 15 points. Josh Dabasinksas had five rebounds, all on the offensive end, in the half.

Bellevue led by as much as 17 points in the second half before Grays Harbor closed to within six at 41-35 with 7:58 to play, but a three pointer by Cooper Brown gave the Bulldogs a jolt as they increased the lead back up to double digits and never looked back.

Cottrell led the ‘dogs with 12 points in the low scoring affair. He led the team with nine rebounds as well.

The Bulldogs are 5-6 on the year and have one game on the road before Christmas as they travel to South Puget Sound on Wed. Dec. 18 for a 5 p.m. tipoff.
