

Bellevue College softball had doubleheaders against Skagit Valley and Shoreline this weekend, splitting on Sat. Apr. 26 at Skagit Valley before sweeping host Shoreline on Sun. Apr. 27.
In the Saturday opener, the Bulldogs fell 12-11 as both Skagit Valley and Bellevue exchanged offensive blows throughout the game as Bellevue scored three and two runs in the first two respective innings as the Cardinals matched BC in both. The teams then exchanged runs in the third and fourth before Skagit put up four in the bottom of the fifth to take a 10-7 lead. The ‘dogs would rally four four runs in the final two innings before Skagit Valley answered with the two-run walkoff win in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Bellevue outhit the Cardinals 15-13 in the slugfest as Brooke Baker, Riley Pirkle and Maddie Repp each had three hits, with Baker homering as well.
In the second game, Bellevue’s pitchers shut down Skagit Valley in a 10-2 win.
On Sunday, the Bulldogs then traveled closer to home to take on Shoreline at Meridian Park, where BC took game one 12-3 as the Bulldogs blew open a close game with eight runs in the fifth inning to end the game early on the run-limit rule. Pirkle homered in Hallie Sehlin who doubled in the previous at bat to start off the big inning. Ella Singer singled home two runs as did Anna Fowler and Sehlin, who batted around a second time through the order in the same inning. Pirkle, Repp, and Jaclyn Huntzinger each had two hits. Malia Reedy and Pirkle combined on a three-hitter in the circle with Pirkle going two innings of shutout ball with four strikeouts.
Bellevue finished the day in strong fashion with a 20-2 blowout. After jumping out 6-0 after two innings, BC put up an 11-spot on the board in the third. Singer homered in three runs to get things started before Ryleigh Wotzka hit a three-run homer. Singer singled for another RBI as they batted through the order. Repp doubled in Singer and Preslie Jensen for the ‘dogs 10th and 11th runs in the monster inning.
Brooke Baker homered in the first and was three-for-three with four runs scored and four RBI’s. Anna Fowler and Pirkle had three hits also while Singer banged in four RBI’s.
Bellevue stands at 17-4 (22-9 overall) and hosts a pair of doubleheaders this week. Fri. May 2 the ‘dogs host Douglas at 2 p.m. before their home finale, Sat. May 3 vs. Edmonds at noon. Saturday’s games will be the annual sophomore day celebration as well.
