
Top-ranked Bellevue College volleyball’s undefeated streak came to an end at 22 as the visiting Edmonds Tritons defeated Bellevue in four sets (27-25, 25-18, 21-25, 25-17) at Courter Family Athletic Pavilion. The match was billed as a showdown between two of the top teams in the NWAC as the Bulldogs entered with a number one ranking and undefeated record at 22-0 while Edmonds was ranked third with a 24-1 record in the conference and had the longest winning streak at 23.
Edmonds took the nail-biting first set after extending an early lead to 16-9 as Bellevue committed three consecutive errors to stake the Tritons’ early momentum. Bellevue then rallied from three down at 21-18 to set point at 24-22 as Olivia Chilton paced the comeback with three big swings but the Bulldogs couldn’t hold on committing three key errors down the stretch, falling 27-25.
The tentativeness up front continued for Bellevue as more attack errors spotted Edmonds to an early 4-0 lead, but the momentum shifted mid-set when the Tritons went on a 6-0 run to go up 18-8, as Edmonds ran away with set two.
Bellevue got the offense rhythm going in set three as the ‘dogs were led by freshman Cadence Lyon who had three kills in a seven point stretch as Bellevue extended an 11-10 lead to 18-12. The ‘dogs would hold on hope winning set three 25-21.
In set four, the Tritons rode the heavy arm of Haley Yost, who racked up big swings late in the set to put Edmonds up 22-16 and ended the match with a kill at 25-17. Yost led Edmonds with 21 kills and had 10 digs.
Bellevue was led by Mya Hejl who had 10 kills and hit at a .500 clip. The ‘dogs struggled offensively, hitting .110 on the night and got beat in serve receive, committing 10 errors.
Bellevue returns to action this Tue. Oct. 14 at Whatcom.
