Bulldog Men Top Edmonds

Will Woodward’s 32 points propelled Bellevue College men’s basketball to a 98-87 win at Courter Family Athletic Pavilion over visiting Edmonds. In the league opener for both teams, Woodward’s physicality was just too much for the Tritons as the ‘dogs fed Woodward down low occasion after occasion as the muscleman transfer from Washington lit it up underneath for 14-for-21 shooting. With the majority of Woodward’s misses from long range, the 6’ 8″ Woodward single-handedly overmatched Edmonds with 12 rebounds as well.

Early on, the Bulldogs had a bit of a scare as the Tritons took advantage of Bellevue’s defense not applying pressure up top. Edmonds drained five three pointers from well beyond the arc to momentarily stun the hometown crowd as the Tritons took a 29-28 lead with 5:18 remaining in the half. The comeback, from an early 22-11 deficit, gave Edmonds hope early on as the Tritons at one point extended the lead to 34-28 with 3:36 on the clock. Woodward made two free throws to bring BC back to within striking distance before a five point swing gave the lead back to Bellevue at 37-35.

In the high scoring second half, a five point spree by Shawn Etheridge and Daniel Kabamba gave BC a 50-44 lead which pushed the momentum Bellevue’s way for the remainder of the game. Woodward made eight consecutive layups near the midway mark in the second half.

Sawyer Cottrell had 19 points while Isaiah White had 10 points and 11 rebounds. Woodward and White led the domination down under as BC outrebounded the Tritons 42-21. The ‘dogs were also hot at the free throw line, making 20 of 23 for 87%.

Bellevue is 1-0 in league and 14-2 overall and will travel to Everett on Sat. Jan. 10 for a 2 PM tipoff.
