Bellevue College women’s basketball built up a commanding 44-15 lead at halftime en route to an 80-56 win on the road at Whatcom.

After a slow start out of the gate by both teams as the score stood at 2-2 through midway of the first quarter, the Bulldogs stepped it up with an 11-0 run led by Sophia Mackay who scored six points during that stretch.

Bellevue proceeded to put up 25 points in the second quarter against a thin Whatcom lineup that had only seven players see the floor. BC went on another run, this time a 13-0 streak which ran Bellevue’s lead from 31-15 to 46-15. Mackay and Aysha Peter had back-to-back three pointers before Leeschelle Sohappy made consecutive buckets to distance Bellevue away from Whatcom heading into intermission.

With a 36 point lead after three quarters, the Orcas managed to gain some ground back with a 22 point fourth quarter.

The Bulldogs put up a whopping 73 shots on the night, including 20 three pointers.

Mackay was on fire making seven of eight from the field for 16 points. Sequoia Turner had 13 points while Sohappy gave a balanced effort with 11 points, four assists and four steals.

Bellevue is now 5-2 in North Region play and will have the weekend off before traveling to Edmonds this Wed. Feb. 4 for a 7 P.M. tipoff.
