Bellevue College men’s basketball held off visiting Everett with a 93-87 win yesterday at Courter Family Athletic Pavilion. Three missed free throws in the final minute by Bellevue gave Everett a chance, down 90-86 with 15 seconds left. But the Trojans could not convert on a missed three point attempt in a wild North Region battle.
Everett had chances earlier on in the second half to even up the game, closing to within three points on multiple occasions, but the Trojans continued to commit critical fouls, giving Bellevue opportunities to maintain the lead. Everett committed 27 fouls on the day and could not handle the strength underneath, sending BC’s top two rebounders, Will Woodward and Isaiah White, to the line 25 times. Woodward converted on 12 of 16 for a game high 24 points and 12 rebounds including six on the offensive end.
In the first half Bellevue used perimeter play to stake a 39-35 lead as Max Mayo and Josiah Johnson combined for 24 points. Mayo drained three of four from three point range while Johnson showed incredible shot efficiency as he has done all season draining three of four from the field and was a perfect five for five from the free throw line. Woodward, who was silenced in the first half with one point, broke out in the high scoring 54 point second half by the Bulldogs with his 23 points.
The Bulldogs are now 22-2 and a perfect 9-0 in league play and will travel to Peninsula this Wed. Feb. 11 for a 5 P.M. tipoff.
