Bellevue College softball traveled east of the mountains to win their season opener in commanding fashion, 21-9 over host Yakima Valley College. The Bulldogs came out of the gates in commanding fashion, scoring in the first four innings of the season. With a narrow 9-8 lead, the ‘dogs plated 10 runs in the final two innings for the win. Maddie Zimprich was five-for-five while Aubree Orr made her college debut with four hits. Transfers Shannon Tierney and Abby Watkins had four RBI’s in their Bulldog debut as well.
The Bulldog offense could not stay hot in game two of their season opening doubleheader on Sat. Feb. 14, falling to Mt. Hood 22-6. Orr was able to maintain her hot bat with a three for three game. Down 22-2 after four innings, the Bulldogs were able to regain some confidence with a four run fifth.
On Sun. Feb. 15, the Bulldogs lost 16-13 to Yakima Valley in an evenly played game with both teams managing 19 hits. Bellevue put up six runs in the third on three extra base hits as Tierney tripled, bringing in Ella Singer and Zimprich, who doubled in both of her at bats in the long inning. Ava Jeretzky, another new transfer to the squad, had four RBI’s and scored three times.
The Bulldogs fell 27-7 in game four of the weekend against Mt. Hood. The Bulldog pitchers had no answers for the potent Mt. Hood offense. BC’s offense still remained strong as Avery Grutz was three for three while Maddie Repp had two RBI’s.
The Bulldogs will travel to eastern Washington again this weekend for a noon doubleheader at Columbia Basin in Pasco.
