Bellevue College softball had to fight off a scrappy Shoreline squad in game one, winning 9-8, before crushing the Dolphins 26-5 in North Region play at Meridian Park. Up 7-6 heading into the final inning, Bellevue’s Allie Barashkoff led things off with a solo shot to give Bellevue an 8-6 lead. Avery Grutz reached first base on an error and was driven home by Dacotah Wood for a 9-6 lead heading into the bottom half. Shoreline answered with their version of lead off power as Nyree Johnson hit a solo home run to cut the lead to 9-7. Two walks, a passed ball, and wild pitch allowed Shoreline to cross home plate to make it 9-8. With tying run at second base, relief pitcher Ava Jeretzky was able to coax a groundout to end the game and Dolphin threat.
In the nightcap, the Bulldogs took advantage of 25 walks by three Shoreline pitchers in a marathon game. Shannon Tierney went off with a 5-for-5 7 RBI game while Jeretzky had 5 RBI’s.
Bellevue is 14-6 in North Region play and 22-16 overall. They travel to Pierce this Fri. May 1 for a 4 P.M. doubleheader.
