Bellevue College baseball competed well in the early innings but managed to take just one of four games in their weekend set against the first place Trojans. On Sat. May 2, Bellevue lost 10-3 and 10-0. The Trojans topped BC 10-5 in Sunday’s opener before falling 3-2 in the nightcap.
In the Saturday opening game of the series, BC got on the board first as leadoff hitter Zach Hudson scored on a Jaxon Fitzgerald ground out. Fitzgerald tripled in the third to give Bellevue a 3-1 lead before the bullpen faltered for the ‘dogs in the 5th as Everett plated six runs on back-to-back doubles and a home run.
In the Sunday opener, Will Woodward went five innings and gave up zero earned runs as the defense miscued five times, opening the door for an Everett win. Bellevue made things interesting by plating five runs in the bottom of the eighth with the tying run at third base, closing the score to 6-5. Thoma Holden and Braeden Reese had five of Bellevue’s eight hits in the game.
Michael Komola, getting the spot start for Bellevue, was brilliant on the mound, going six innings while giving up just one run. He walked zero before giving way to Grady Davis and Tahvo Latvala, who survived a two out error to coax Lucas Cheha into a game-ending flyout for the save.
Bellevue, who clinched a playoff berth this weekend, is in third place in the North Region and will close out regular season play this weekend vs. Edmonds. Friday’s doubleheader, the last home game of the year, is set for a 1 P.M. first pitch.
